SPECIAL CHALLENGES: Create a retail environment for a luxury product that emphasizes user experience for customers and employees. Special attention must be paid to wayfinding/signage and branding elements such as logos.
DESIGN STATEMENT: Comic books and comic book related figures, apparel, and accessories can be experienced in a whole new way in this upscale store. Set in San Diego, home to America's largest annual comic book convention, Urban Oasis Comics uses bright, vibrant colors to mimic the visual style of traditional comic books and create an energetic, youthful feeling. Custom acrylic signage imitates the dialog boxes ubiquitous in most comics. A reading area allows customers to take their time and enjoy the space while a custom storage and display case provides customers and employees with easy access to the comics. The custom logo also expresses the store's desire to modernize the classic comic book store and elevate it to an experience.
