History of Costume Illustrated Digital Vocabulary List CH19

During the 1980s POWER SUITS became a way for women to beak away from feminine stereotypes in the work place. The suits were often boxy with large shoulders pads, pants, and pin stripe print. This is a slight more feminized version of the power suit designed by Donna Karan in the 1990s. Karan felt that women could still be a powerful force in the work place while still maintaining a feminine look.
