W Hawkers Center acts as an intervention in Kebayoran Baru. Its intention is to activate the surrounding area into an active street. As a business and education area, the Pakubuwono district has empty spaces on certain time which led to no surveillance in the area. Therefore, Unconscious surveillance needs to be emphasized to create a safe street - according to Jane Jacobs. Kaki lima (Hawkers) as the crafting agent in the area can be a great agent to emphasize this surveillance issue. As hawkers are considered an illegal and informal part of the business in Jakarta, the W Hawkers Center tries to create a permanent and legal space for the Hawkers in hope to activate the street for a better surveillance and a safe experience around the area.
