The Precision HSD for RIM BlackBerry Javelin blends durability and style in a unique case and carry solution that safeguards both the front and back of the mobile device. (www.agfindings.com)
The Precision HD was taken from concept into ProEngineer - here you see a front view of the assembly from Pro/E.
The distinguishing feature of the HSD is the hinged shell front. It is a patented hybrid of a phone holster and a shell case.
Here is a similar view from the Pro/E assembly. The process and feature set developed for this product translates into similar HSD's done for RIM Blackberry Storm, Palm Pre, and iPhone.
The shell door opens 30 degrees and is designed to release with over-extension, rather than fail. The Palm Pre and iPhone versions allow for storage in either front or back orientations.
Care had to be taken to allow the phone to egress without getting caught, while also maintaining as much coverage as possible.
Thickness, draft and phone support all have to be considered in these designs. Also, some phones have special feature needs, such a the circular pocket for a magnet to activate and deactivate this Balckberry Javelin.
This represents the type of surface we must make from provided phone scans - the surface must be able to be offset without problems in order to create various products with it. Sometimes the actual phone dimensions change, before release, so the model must be as robustly parametric as possible.
