Turning Pointe
Thesis project at the University of Houston.
Turning Pointe focuses on reducing the injuries in ballerinas' feet due to the constant use of pointe shoes.
Key findings:
- Most of the injuries could be reduced if the shoes were properly fitted for each dancer.
- The traditional custom-shoe-making process fails to keep up with the demand.
- The materials used to make pointe shoes are outdated and contribute to the injuries.
Solution
To redesign the custom-shoe making process in order to successfully create proper fitting shoes that will help decrease the amount of foot injuries in professional ballet dancers.
