Beyond the lobby, visitors enter the working area of the space, where there are large dance studios, restrooms, and an admin area. A studio just beyond the ticket taking space in the lobby serves as a dance space for monthly performances showcasing student choreography. The casual nature of the space, with no official stage, and pillows rather than chairs for seating, gives dance a more accessible feel, pulling viewers in. These monthly showcases also push dance forward through encouraging young dancers to choreograph regularly rather than simply to perform pieces created by others. Dance can only progress through movement and through continual discussion and thought. Dancespiration therefore presents a space that brings creative minds together.

Dancespiration

Dancespiration is a dance studio designed to inspire innovation in dance. The amorphous shapes in the lobby push visitors to be creative, as the shapes are ambiguous, and viewers must determine for themselves if they are looking at chairs or tables or a reception area. In addition, the amorphous nature of these forms is associated with movement, a key tenet of the concept.
The lobby is divided into four areas: an exhibit space for work by local artists, a central reception area, a ticket taking and waiting area, and a collaboration space where dancers can sit in amorphous collaboration pods as they create choreography individually or in groups. A central white tile path curves through the space, surrounded on each side by solid colored flooring that changes as visitors pass from one area to the next. A central lighting fixture above the reception desk seems to move across the ceiling, creating an amorphous shape above the space.
