After: the new layout is open to the living room, with a flexible table instead of the island, and all new furnishings.
Before: there was only a small doorway from the living room into the kitchen.
Before: the island in the old kitchen was awkward and ugly.

Former Rental gets Fabulous

This 100 year old home was formerly a rental property. The kitchen lacked any original charm, and was "updated" with cheap materials and little thought. The new owner will be living in the house and was looking to improve the quality of construction, layout, and style of the kitchen to match her elegant tastes and entertaining lifestyle.

DESIGN SOLUTION: The room was taken down to the studs. The wall separating the living room was opened up and the soffits were removed to fit with current trends. The island was removed and replaced with a counter-height table that can double as a workspace or seating for eight. A new, inoperable window was installed, so that the the range could be installed underneath it. All new furnishings include: tile floors, two-toned hickory & white cabinets, Corian countertop, farmhouse sink, white appliances, and chandelier lights. The open layout and chic accents make the kitchen something the homeowner is proud to show off.
