After: the attic is now the owners bedroom with ensuite & built-in wardrobe.
After: a custom walk-in shower with body spays and a privacy glass window.
After: working around the chimney added opportunities for built-in storage a little bit of privacy.
After: the skylight above the sink is the perfect way to wake up.
Before: the attic was finished, but was nothing more than a blank room with a big chimney in the middle.

Attic Retreat

This cape cod from the 1960s was in a prime location, but it lacked the modern conveniences and space that people are looking for these days.

DESIGN SOLUTION: A bathroom was added to the attic to create a primary bedroom retreat. The homeowners loved the character of the chimney, and wanted to incorporate it into the design rather than try to hide it or remove it. The chimney divides the bedroom from the bathroom and provides a space for some floating shelves on both sides. Creating enough headroom with the slanted rooflines was another challenge. The sink was conveniently placed under the skylight, and storage was built into the shorter areas of the ceiling that would otherwise go unused.
