Elements of Design Composition - Using only one type of geometric shape and only the colors black and white, we were suppose to develop a series of 6 compositions that demonstrated the following elements of design. Top Row from Left to Right: Direction, Asymmetrical Balance, Symmetrical Balance. Bottom Row from Left to Right: Texture, Rhythm and Repetition and Scale.
Color Composition - There were 2 parts to this assignment. Part 1: Using a variety of geometric shapes and lines we were to create compositions demonstrating TWO color schemes. I chose to do a Complimentary Color scheme (composition on the far left) and an Analogous Color scheme (composition in the center). Part 2: Using only geometric shapes and referring to the psychology of color, we were to create a composition that represented a single word. I chose to represent the word FEAR (composition on far right)
Typography Composition (Part 1) - For this assignment we were told to choose 6 words and create a visually descriptive composition for each. The word described here is WIDE-EYED.
Typography Composition (Part 2) - For this assignment we were told to choose 6 words and create a visually descriptive composition for each. The word described here is CLUMSY.
Typography Composition (Part 3) - For this assignment we were told to choose 6 words and create a visually descriptive composition for each. The word described here is HARMONIOUS.
Typography Composition (Part 4) - For this assignment we were told to choose 6 words and create a visually descriptive composition for each. The word described here is JEALOUS.
Typography Composition (Part 5) - For this assignment we were told to choose 6 words and create a visually descriptive composition for each. The word described here is CONFUSED.
Typography Composition (Part 6) - For this assignment we were told to choose 6 words and create a visually descriptive composition for each. The word described here is LONG.
Ornamental Type Composition - Our assignment here was to create a series of three collages using letterforms as a decorative element. The letters I chose to portray are the letter R, E, and C and they are portrayed in this order.
Bad Design Revamp Composition - For this assignment we were to choose a design that we considered to be an example of “bad design” and redesign it so that it communicated the intended message more effectively. The goal was to keep all company logos and text as written (couldn't make any changes to the content of the body copy), but could can change any images, colors or fonts as well as the size, order and spacing of all elements in the design. I chose to redesign a flyer for a soccer camp sponsored by local organizations.
Corporate Identity Package (Business Card) - For this assignment we were to develop a logo for a fake publisher called INERTIA, who produces both print and online publications that examine avant garde and cutting edge trends in the art world. The logo would then be applied to our business card and letterhead designs.
Corporate Identity Package (Business Letterhead) - For this assignment we were to develop a logo for a fake publisher called INERTIA, who produces both print and online publications that examine avant garde and cutting edge trends in the art world. The logo would then be applied to our business card and letterhead designs.
Magazine Cover Spread - This assignment was to design a cover and an interior spread for a fake magazine called “Eye on Design" which focused on cutting edge art and design trends. For this assignment I took more of a color approach to the design. All the pictures represent color in very dynamic ways and in my opinion give the spread a very cohesive look.
Event Poster - For this assignment we were to create a promotional poster for an artist or band of our choice. I decided to design for one of my favorite bands right now that go by the name NEON TREES. The design is very simple and clean but still visually interesting. Since they are called Neon Trees I felt it necessary to use a bright color scheme that could capture the eccentricity of the members and their music.
