The Floating Desk was a project created out of necessity. There were no commercial L shaped floating or wall mount desks available on the market and i wanted a clean modern desk space to work on my designs.
The design evolved from a symmetrical corner desk to an L shaped desk. (as you can see in the images). The L shape has two main advantages over the symmetrical design:
1. It provided a better solution for wall monitor mounting. Mounting them on the corner would have consumed too much space because of the length of the entire display setup.
2. Provided the opportunity to add an adjustable/hidden keyboard tray.
The main structure is made from 2"x1" galvanized steel rectangular pipe.
The top and sides are covered by 1/2" plywood and wood veneer.
Mounted within the desk are two 600VA UPS backup supplies which provide clean power protection too all the electronics.
