Exhibited at IDSWest 2012 in Vancouver, 'Tempo' is a Chess timer that utilizes sand timers in place of digital clocks.
Toward the end of his Chess career Bobby Fisher expressed his distaste for the draining of creativity from the field. In our technically refined world, even games and pastimes are molded into systematized, rigid routines.
Tempo is a product designed to reintroduce the childhood nostalgic fascination that lured us into games in the first place. Relatively imprecise, visually striking glass sand timers are utilized as the main timekeeping components. The delicate wooden mechanical components are enclosed in a form that emphasizes balance between the players while at rest, and tension while in motion.
