PSU Entrium
Thom Faulders approached LIT Workshop to fabricate his Entrium Sculpture for installation at Portland State University.
Faulders Studio provided initial 3D models and engineering details.
I then built the entire structure in SolidWorks to aid in producing cut files and fabrication drawings. Drawings were also produced for permitting and approvals as needed.
Hundreds of aluminum fins were laser cut, then formed, and finally welded into individual "module" frames. The modules were then attached to the large, welded 2"x8" aluminum frame. I introduced the use of an ipad in our welding shop, with 3D models loaded on it to help make sense of the complex, organic shapes and structures.
Finally the whole structure was transported on a truck in the early morning hours, and successfully hoisted into position on the Science, Teaching, and Research Center.
Quite the project, from start to finish.
