Mud City Press is an electronic publishing company, online magazine and online bookstore based in Eugene, Oregon. Mud City offers fiction and non-fiction books, articles, reviews and commentary focusing on the environment and the economics of sustainability.
Having taught himself enough HTML to hard-code and maintain the Mud City Press website from the ground up in the early 2000’s, the owner and editor came to me in early 2017 with a limited budget and a request to take the existing aesthetic and content of the site as the basis for a set of responsive, mobile-friendly templates.
The idea we hatched was that with a well-designed set of templates he could run with, he could then update the rest of the site on his own while accessing a breakthrough level of web design and development capability. The project offered me a fascinating design and project management challenge that required a nimble dance between both being a developer and articulating what I know in the role of teacher.
