This project was conducted to design a solution to the exposure of dangerous levels of dust and chemical particles when working on and finishing projects in domestic environments. The need was identified when I witnessed several of my colleagues working on their own project prototypes in small, confined student halls, exposing themselves to high levels of airborne dust when finishing materials such as HIPS and ABS (which also contains resins such as formaldehyde). Therefore, my solution to this problem was to design and produce a desk based unit which extracted and safely stored the dust particles generated for appropriate disposal after the work had been finished.
The project is designed to be used with Dremel tooling and I have approuched Dremel and gained permission to use the brand identity within this project. The project has been submitted to Dremel as of 22/04 for consideration and approval.
