User Centered Design & Conceptual Analysis - Re-designing an existing web based Reporting tool was assigned to me. I started out to understand the user mental model. An open card sorting was performed with sample user. Identifying sample users from different user groups.
Step 2 - Most of the users were remote so an online PowerPoint Based card sorting was performed.
Step 3 - Sample Card Sort - Items Grouped by primary user groups
User Centered Design & Conceptual Analysis - Primary task analysis
step 5 - 2 conceptually different wireframes were developed based on the card sorting result. Option 1: (The above screen is for Admin scenario) In an admin scenario the user will click on his module which will further have sub modules like - Groups, Roles, Users, etcs Option 2: On an ongoing basis admin user will create and manage different modules like group, role, etc. So first the user will choose whether he wants to create or modify and based on that he can create group, role, user...
Step 6 - This lo-fi prototype was circulated and based on the feedback approach 1 was selected
Step 7 - GUI Option 1 was developed based on the wireframe
GUI Option 2
Step 7 - GUI option 3
Step 8 - Based on heuristic evaluation, astethic appeal. combination of option 1 and 2 was developed. And also the menus were iconized instead of the usual left name website kind of navigation
step 9 - Design was built into a functional prototype. And then the final application was designed
