Folding Workshop Stool

This was one of the briefs set during my second year studying at the University of Derby. The task was to come up with; an initial design concept, 3D SoildWorks CAD model and a full 1:1 scale working prototype with the finishes and tolerances. The project was to design a folding lab/workshop stool that could be used in the wood workshop and then be collapsed down when not in use. The stool would have to accommodate 90% of the target market if possible 90% of the population of the country, and needed to suit the target markets ergonomic, anthropometric and visual needs. For my design I kept the shape simple and sleek, which meant that it was easy to router the parts if they become damaged. I used removable fixings so everything can be disassembled to ease recycling and to allow part swaps. My design also has three foot rests to accommodate the 5%tile, 50%tile, and 95%tile student. this therefore allows the majority of people of almost any height to sit comfortably upon the stool.
