Women of the Gold Rush West with LCHM at the Hult Center
As the Terminal Project for my Master's degree in Folklore, I curated, designed and produced two small temporary exhibitions in collaboration with the Lane County Historical Museum, the Eugene Opera, the Hult Center for the Performing Arts, and the Eugene Public Library.
These exhibits were part of a series of events, lectures and exhibitions scheduled in to coordinate with Eugene Opera's spring 2014 production of Puccini's "Girl of the Golden West," and were warmly received by the Eugene-Springfield community.
The "Picturing an Older, Wilder West" exhibit at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts featured objects from the collections at the Lane County Historical Museum, and an old time photo booth with try-on clothes.
At the two productions of the Girl of the Golden West, dozens of attendees tried on costumes and snapped pictures, imagining themselves in the Wild West and comparing the historical past with the fantasy of the opera.
