This Alaskan mask, here to represent existing MNCH holdings in Alaska and the Arctic, had previously been on display in "Face to Face with Masks from the Museum Collections." It rests on its original acrylic mount from that exhibit.

Highlights of the Jensen Arctic Collection at UO MNCH

This exhibit opened May 9 2014.

UO MNCH is adopting the holdings of the Jensen Arctic Museum, formerly housed at Western Oregon University.

UO MNCH's Executive Director decided to quickly showcase a wide range of objects representing the scope and quality of the Jensen Arctic Collection. As MNCH's Curator of the Jensen Arctic Collection, I independently developed, designed, wrote, produced and installed this exhibition.

I incorporated casework and original murals from the closed museum in Monmouth, and worked closely with both MNCH and JAM Collections staff to select key objects and appropriately interpret and display them.

The final design is a tightly packed Victorian curio cabinet of an exhibit, in homage to the house museum at WOU which had been filled to the brim with display cases and collections storage.

This exhibit is a testament to the fact that the Jensen Arctic Collection will live on at MNCH, joining other Alaskan and Arctic materials in an active research collection.
