A unifying form factor was developed in order to make the product more appealing without making it look out of place in a medical environment, which is important for the patient perception of his or her treatment. The planar surfaces highlight the functional areas and the standard light boxes are replaced with a part made of the same extruded profile used in other sections of the product.
As a modular system the product can be reconfigured to suit the different needs of a hospital. This means being able to change or add different gas valves, power outlets, light fixtures or accessories like stands. This modular system is even designed to be able to extend vertically as well as horizontally, providing much more space for more elements.
This project stood out for the client as a great example of how just a few changes can turn into a major leap forward.

Bed Head Unit

This is a hospital Bed Head unit, providing different features to both hospital personnel and patients (like oxygen distribution, serum support as well as lighting and power outlets).
The project focused on the optimization of the previous design already being manufactured by the client. After analysing the problems behind the original model we detected several key areas to work on:
• Reducing the amount of parts needed.
• Better hierarchization and communication of functional parts.
• Improving the overall form factor of the product to provide a more appropriate and appealing image.

This project was part of “Innovar 2014” exhibition and contest organized by the Argentinian Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation.

This project was fully developed in collaboration with another Industrial Designer.
