Mercadillo
The local Wednesday market in the small beach town of Guardamar drew crowds from all the surrounding cities. From sunrise to the start of siesta at two in the afternoon, the streets were packed with either cars fighting their way to the market or shoppers browsing the booths.
We began our site analysis by filming the same 12 locations in the market at 1hr intervals using four cameras back to back to capture a 360-degree view. Using the footage, I created a video in Adobe Premier that told a story of the Mercadillo as an event that creates both invisible and physical boundaries as well as breaks them. Moving from two-dimensional diagrams of the event, I constructed spatial moments that spoke of the textures of divisions as well as the balance of spatial separation and the tension that created.
