More than the final product, I love the process. My work should exhibit the joy I gain from creating it. When a piece is going very well, my movements and thoughts become fluid. My physical and mental experiences are focused entirely on the painting. The smell of the damp paper is enhanced, the texture of the bristles against the rough paper become more apparent. All the stress and cacophony of everyday life can be ignored, and I am free to think clearly and creatively and live in the moment. I know a piece is completed when this bubble of serenity breaks, and the piece is a source of anxiety and I begin nitpicking at the tiny things.
I also love mixing media. I often will use watercolor pencils, and colored pencils, with my watercolor paintings. I use the pencils to enhance the details that can get lost with the paint. For the teabag and sugar cube painting, I made a cup of tea with the sugar and tea bag to add shading and color to the background of the painting.
