Job Description

Constructive is a leading social impact strategy and design firm that helps advance social, environmental, and economic justice. We’re a close-knit, committed, and values-driven team of experts and advocates who partner with ambitious organizations to make the world a more fair, equitable, and sustainable place. If you’d like to get a feel for our culture, read our company values here.

We are looking for a freelance UX Designer to join our team on a part-time contract basis who will assist with developing IA, sitemaps, wireframes, content outlines, and annotation for website design projects. This role is a great fit for a seasoned UX Designer with a passion for social impact who has great brand and digital storytelling skills and a strong understanding of how nonprofit brands can effectively engage audiences, particularly through websites that emphasize story and knowledge mobilization.
Please note: UX Designers applying for this role should demonstrate a keen understanding of brand storytelling through digital channels. This is not a role for designers focused on apps or products.

Your strategic UX designs will be the foundation on which we design and build brand experiences that drive social impact—primarily through websites that effectively position nonprofit brands to deepen audience engagement, deliver valuable content, and drive measurable outcomes.

About You
You will drive the organization and design of information-rich websites for our social impact clients that are the foundation of the brand experiences they create. You are great at understanding how to effectively position and strengthen a brand through digital experiences. Your designs live at the intersection of brand and audience needs/goals. And you’re driven by the outcomes and impacts that our clients are seeking to have through our work together. You’re confident with auditing and organizing information and ensure that it tells the right story and engages audiences in the right actions. You enjoy translating strategy into UX designs that deliver on client goals, outcomes, and KPIs. You’re a collaborative partner who understands strategy, content, and engineering to ensure that there is a strong, connective through-line between strategy and execution.

Work You’ll Contribute To
- Website Audits: Perform website assessments including heuristic reviews, content, UX, and feature audits; conduct desk research, competitor audits, and other research as needed.
- Content Organization: Assist in ensuring content is organized, categorized, and tagged appropriately, develop user journeys, and assist in developing plans for content migration.
- Sitemap Development: Develop sitemap options and high-level content outlines that communicate the purpose, content, and actions of key pages.
- Wireframe Development: Design and annotate wireframes, develop prototypes, and ensure strategy is present throughout the experience.

Skills & Experience You’ll Need
- Proficiency working in Figma.
- A deep desire to work in the social impact space to help solve complex societal issues.
- A collaborative mindset and a strong understanding of how the intersection of content, design, and technology builds brand experiences in large-scale websites.
- A passion for people, brands, designed experiences, storytelling, and content engagement.
- The ability to persuade by articulating clear and compelling ideas.
- Excellent presentation skills and the ability to keep attendees engaged and feeling confident in your recommendations.
- The ability to turn strategy into websites and digital experiences.
- A work style that is organized and methodical in its approach to designing digital experiences.
- A portfolio that showcases your approach to and results in developing audits, content organization, sitemaps, and wireframes for information-rich websites.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a UX Designer with emphasis in digital/website engagement.
- Flexibility to work within Constructive’s established processes.

These are the things we’ll be evaluating for every applicant—and if you meet those and add to our diversity, all the better.
