Interface - Programs: Illustrator, Photoshop Problem: This assignment was to design a series of three posters that conveys a problem or concern while maintaining a similar look and feel. Concept: My research and concerns led me to look at the technology of computer and user interaction. Each poster deals with one topic of the problem: identity theft or security, file management, and information retrieval. When designing the poster I wanted the imagery and photography to reflect the rough chunkiness of computing. This poster series placed 7th in the Wisconsin State Juried Graphic Design Show.
Art Department CD - Programs: Illustrator, Director, Photoshop Problem: University of Wisconsin-Stout ’s Art Department wanted a promotional CD-Rom for prospect ive students. I was asked onto the project in the later half when the other students working on it were having problems meeting the deadline. I was responsible for fine tuning the design and fixing broken scripts. The CD-ROM received an award of excellence in the electronic media entries at the UCDA (University & College Designer Association) design competition.
Outset inc. - Programs: Illustrator, Flash, Photoshop website: www.outsetinc.com Problem: Outset had wanted to revamp there website after redesigning a new catalog. The graphic designer designed most of the website but was unfamiliar with web screen design and how to implement it. They also wanted unique fonts and a fluid interactive site. Concept: Due to the fonts and interactivity the site was build exclusively in flash. The images are all loaded in dynamically and the contact page uses php to send out emails to three different persons in the office. Much of the original website designs were redone to fit into a standard screen size.
Alfresco Outing Club - Programs: Illustrator, Flash website: aflresco.uwstout.edu Problem: The Alfresco Outing Club at the University of Wisconsin-Stout wanted posters designed to help boost club attendance. They also wanted a website that could be easily updated and would provide students another way to sign up for trips. Concept: The concept was to make the poster clearly visible and also stay environmentally savvy. I decided instead of making hundreds of letter-sized black and white photocopies to go with 50 poster-sized prints on recycled newsprint. Each design was hand screen printed with the help of the club to keep the cost down. The paper and printing style give the posters a natural, rugged style that was then carried over to the website. The concept for the website was to maintain the screen printing style of the posters and also bring a historic feel to the site. The site was designed in Flash to take advantage of the animation capabilities and the ease of linking external text files within the document. The text files can be easily updated and modified without worry of messing up code, look, or feel.
Amateur Love Music - Programs: Illustrator, Flash, Photoshop website: www.amateurlovemusic.com Problem: The band Amateur Love wanted a promotional website used to inform people about the band and upcoming shows, but not for selling merchandise. The band also wanted a way to let people listen to their music without downloading it. And most importantly, the site needed to be “simple.” Concept: To communicate the sound and feeling of the band I used large photographs and band-approved graphics. Layout resembles a Polaroid with a large picture on top and white space on the bottom. I also made an mp3 player in Flash which made it nearly impossible to download the band's music.
