MSc Thesis - Stability investigation of a fluid-conveying pipe

The aim of my MSc thesis was to investigate the stability behaviour of a fluid-conveying pipe. It is like a weak fluid structure interaction problem. First, a 2 dimensional, 2 degree of freedom discrete, nonlinear model of the pipe was made in the vertical and in the horizontal plane. The stability regions of the linear system were determined with the Routh-Hurwitz criteria. The dynamic stability behaviour was obtained with bifurcation analysis by varying the dimensionless fluid velocity parameter of the pipe. The analytical evaluation is based on Kuznetsov’s method and the numerical calculations were obtained by MatCont (bifurcation diagrams). In the second part I made the nonlinear continuum model of the same fluid-conveying structure. The linear stability analysis was also obtained with the help of Routh-Hurwitz criteria and the dynamical stability analysis with MatCont (bifurcation analysis). The analytical calculations verified the numerical results.
