Provocation of the Senses

The design is for a haggis factory and eatery, but also developes the urban public spaces around the architecture. Haggis is a fairly simple process, but one that is often hidden away. It is a key part of Scottish heritage and tourism, and as such, my design was intended to be itself representative of the different stages, and also transparent for interaction and learning. A simple hierarchy of spaces and their location in the chain of the architecture was how I resolved this, and by embedding the design into the tourist grid of Edinburgh, opened it up and made it totally accessable from all sides. To enhance the space constantly, the glazing that provides the safety barriers also has lighting built in behind it, making the crevace glow out at night, bringing people into this space. This theatrical element mimics the lighting of my object with candles in the photography exercise, but also serves as enhancing the public realm, allowing it also to be used in performances.
