AFTER: The new shower was close to 7' long and is his favorite part of the new space. We joked that they could have a party in it now! The tile brought together the traditional with stunning marble on the walls, while the glass accent tile brought in a more modern accent and helped to reflect light. The placement of robe hooks right outside the shower door allows for easy reach of a robe or towel.
AFTER: The new shower featured a fixed shower head, body sprays by Kohler, a handheld wand, and a large rain can above. The clients already had 3/4" pipes in the space so we were able to use Hansgrohe fixtures throughout, maximizing the water pressure available. The controls were all Brizo to be as minimalist as possible in look while providing the users the option to turn on any combination they wanted.
AFTER: Every detail was thoughtfully planned in this space including many hours spent discussing how best to control the plumbing. This Brizo handle was located within reach of the door to control the water supply so that the shower could warm up before they stepped inside!
AFTER: Grab bars were added now to the shower to aid in the use. As a designer I find it important to see how construction is going whenever possible, there is a lot to be learned as jobs are in progress! Originally the tile installer used the wrong trim pieces for the niche and it seemed quite out of place. After many conversations I convinced them to fix it using the marble pieces seen here. When I spoke with the client a few days later she was thrilled with the fix, as she was seriously bothered by the metal trim previously used but didn't want to say anything! It's moments like that which make me love my job.
AFTER: Gone was the giant swimming pool of a tub and now a stunning new tub perfectly fits the Mrs. when she is relaxing after a long week of work. The tub included a heated element to warm the surface and keep the water warmer longer.
AFTER: The stunning tub filler by Brizo was a surprising pick by the client when we took them to make selections. A perfect representation of a transitional element, it served as the basis for many other choices we made throughout the space. The shine from it as the metal curves makes it a true piece of art in this bathroom.
AFTER: The new vanity gave the couple tons of new storage. His and hers countertop towers with outlets in the back give them a place for their most commonly used items. The large drawers on the right house all of their towels and even a spare set of sheets. The makeup drawer now gives her a place to get ready in the morning, when before she sat on the edge of the tub.
AFTER: The curved shower door took many months to be fabricated and installed, but was well worth the wait! It was a feature the clients were so excited about and loved the unique element it brought to the project. The floor tile garnered a lot of comments from the construction crew and other designers, as it hadn't been used by our team before. It's metallic qualities made it challenging to pair with other greys and tile used. The reflectiveness and diagonal lay helped to make the room feel wider.
AFTER: One of my favorite elements of the space is the hidden shelf we designed next to the toilet. It allows for a place for toilet paper or anything needed at hand to be in easy reach while keeping the front of vanity symmetrical.
AFTER: A part of the details in this space was the custom look of the vanity with feet and integrated in panels. The curved handles used on the cabinetry furthers the curves used elsewhere. Having an amazing carpenter as part of this project made all of the details such as the wainscoting easy to achieve!
AFTER: The couple were so pleased with how the bathroom was going that mid-construction they added on with an update to the bedroom. New paint, switches, and wood floors were added. I also helped by providing guidance on the fabrics used in the updated bedding and curtains which lend to a relaxing Master suite!
3D renderings done in Chief Architect helped the client to visualize the new space including the size and placement of fixtures. The new vanity was a primary design factor and at over 10' in length it will store all their bathroom products with lots of room to spare!
The view from inside the shower now feels open and spacious and the accent tile gives a nice splash of color.
This 3D rendering shows how removing the wall and squaring off the bulkhead makes the room more open. The curved shower is a unique element that adds to the open feeling. The new design prepares for aging and accessibility without sacrificing the design style.
BEFORE: The shower was so uncomfortably narrow the Mrs. had resigned herself to washing her hair in the sink and after 25+ years of use was starting to leak. The toilet located across from the shower was too far from the side wall, making it unable to have usable grab bars added in the future.
BEFORE: Is this a tub or a small swimming pool? It was so large it was never used except as a place to sit as she got ready. Plus, the front was carpeted! The built up box between the tub and vanity didn't house anything mechanical and blocked access to the window.
BEFORE: The space was divided by a wall and door that rarely closed. The small vanity provide little of the storage they needed.

Transitional Master Bath

The Gallagher's have lived in their beautiful home near the lake for many years but never felt like the interior was a place they could relax and enjoy. The area was heavy wooded making the home seem dark and far smaller than it was. The fixtures in their master bath were original builder grade options and were starting to fail. The over 150 sf bathroom did not take advantage of any of that room to be comfortable and functional! The new bathroom was inspired by several photos the homeowner had been looking at and dreaming about for years. As they near retirement they wanted a space that could be easily adapted as they age while blending in with their classic furnishings. The end result is one of my favorites with every detail planned and a lot of sparkle as well, which was a direct reflection of their vibrant personalities!
