GSD Project 2 (Models and Drawings)
I focused on how intersections can create different spatial relationships within a building. The two dwellings represent private spaces for two families, and the L-shaped intersecting structure represents shared public space. In the overlapping areas are windows that allow the inhabitants to look down onto the first floor. Not only do these intersections create views, but they also create different programs and a path of circulation. The third floor that sits as the long rectangular bar also represents shared space; while it doesn’t physically intersect, overlapping areas are carved out to bring natural light into the building, and thus creating double and triple heights, depending on the amount of noise preferred in relation to nearby programs. Because each successive floor extends horizontally further out than the previous, new views are created in relation to the site. This arrangement also allows for a meandering loop-like circulation, resembling an infinity symbol.
