The goal of this design was to create a modern kitchen that was both wheelchair accessible and inviting to children. The white walls, making the space feel open and clean, are accented by waves of geometric woodwork that add color, storage, and a little whimsy. Orange is the perfect color for a fun, high-energy kitchen. Modern plastic furniture, lightweight and easy to clean, is softened by more classic wood pieces. The swirling structure on the ceiling brings interest and sound absorption, serving as a ceiling medallion and a place to house recessed lighting.
The open floorplan and smooth concrete floor allow for maximum mobility. The banquette seating in the corner is a cozy place for kids as well as a highly accessible workspace.
This elevation gives a more detailed look at the scale and functionality of the geometric accents. Multi-functional stools are spread around the room, easily moved for extra seating or tucked in the corner for display purposes.
These are the very first details I created, a must for custom pieces. This project required thoughtful planning and research in order to satisfy ADA height and space regulations. Special pieces, such as pull-down cabinets and short counters, serve as a great convenience for the clients.
