Plans and Thesis - The resuscitation strategy for the Sunset Strip involves the renovation of the historic Tower Records store. In addition, certain empty and/or unused lots along the strip will also be renovated. The main, uniting theme for both the record store and these lots will involve performance spaces, as the musical identity cannot be separated from the Sunset Strip. The Tower Records will take on a timeless purpose, where all kinds of media used to play music will be sold and displayed.
Sections and Diagrams - The interior and exterior of the building and lot are meant to be read as indistinguishable where the walls and floors have the same flow. This pattern layed onto the site allows for the dynamic movement of one’s eye and for the flow of visitors. Its glass walls relaxes the barrier between inside and outside, allowing the visitor to have a connection with the activities taking place either inside or outside.
General Sunset Strip Resuscitation - Separating the Sunset Strip from music is impossible. One can only think of Sunset as having life during the night hours. However, with replacing some old parking lots and putting outdoor stages, the Strip will become invigorated by flocks of visitors during the day time as well. The goal is to get the passers by involved directly or indirectly with any performances occurring at any time of the day. Thus these spectacles will re-characterize and bring the Strip back to the life it once had.
Model - The building's program serves as a museum with various display boards and display cases, where musical artifacts can be observed. The display boards at the bottom have various mediums for music, MP3s, DVDs, CDs and vinyls. A new and interesting feature in these display boards is the MP3 downloading station which connects to an iPod, computer, or some other music facilitating device. There are also audio stations where visitors can listen to their choices before purchasing their selections.
