In my final year at university, I was lucky enough to secure a work placement with Dr. Martens, who helped me to manufacture my final collection.
The overall concept for the Native Heritage Collection is the North-West Coast Native Americans (Inuit) and Northamptonshire footwear heritage. I chose to combine these two themes because I wanted to bring in my American heritage but also utilise the amazing heritage of the Northamptonshire footwear industry, which I have fallen in love with and been inspired by over the past 3 years.
When creating my collection I wanted to create bold and graphic shoes and boots that grabbed your attention and had that classic Dr. Martens no nonsense attitude and industrial heritage. I did this by using Dr. Martens’ “1460” boot and “1461” shoe patterns combined with the bold shapes and colours of the Inuit art.
