Chicago's Native Treasures Book / Personal Project

A skillfully crafted publication that offers a vivid range of diverse historic experiences.

Deliverables: Copywriting, Print Design

Chicago’s Native Treasures is a self publication containing 3 historical essays. The essays document Chicago’s Parks and Recreation, World’s Columbian Exposition, and the Chicago Blues.

The objective was to achieve unity in the overall design, while clearly accenting the individuality of each text.

The layout progresses between multiple contrasts. First, subdued quotes and ample white space express a serene sense of stepping into the garden. Next, a x-dent and layers of transparency give a feeling of diversity, symbolic of the fair. Finally, wailing quotes and a reversed background give the sense of the malleable aspect of the blues. The final design culminates in a unified voice, where each element builds upon, relates to and reinforces one another.
