My First Period - Final Collection
My final collection at University titled 'My First Period' based on the transition of a child into adolescents and the transformation into womanhood.
Inspired by children's nightwear, and clothing that is shrinking as the child outgrows them. In a colour palette of nudes, pinks and reds.
This was a controversial theme as menstruation is seen as a taboo topic, which is something I wanted to challenge. Menstruation is a natural occurrence that half the population experiences, although it is shunned and thought of as grotesque.
My collection was designed to appear cute, delicate, coy, whimsy and innocent, although possess a double entendre and hides a theme not visibly recognisable at first appearance.
