Bottom design sketches. Here I was searching for a way to combine some elements of an existing design language, such as the front and back "paws", with a sort of "path" running along the sole. Originally I thought of opening some drains in the sole to improve the breathability and evacuate better the water, but it would have been too costly.
Upper and sole side sketches. I've been searching for ways to link the sandals design with the other shoes in the collections (design language) as much as the very limited upper can allow. On the webbing version, only the bottom could give a bit of space, on the synthe one, I kept one finger from the paw (front) and the dynamic line of the side. Also here are some versions for men and women.
Sandals are very difficult to develop, so as the factory was struggling to develop the patterns I had to do them the old school way.

Jack Wolfskin Sandals SS16

LAKEWOOD M & W sandals SS16

Sandals are a significant business for Jack Wolfskin. We wanted, for the SS16 collection, to develop two new models for both men and women, one simple webbings version, and one more protective synthetic version.
Designing specific women versions was new for Jack Wolfskin. This gave me the possibility to give a bit more testosterone to the men version while making the women version slicker and lighter looking.

These sandals a targetted for the "conservative" segment, which implies certain codes, proportions and strap positions should be there.
