Bauhaus - Cranbrook Posters - This is a set of two posters for an art exhibit celebrating both art schools, Bauhaus and Cranbrook. The Bauhaus poster illustrated portrays the simplistic, geometric structure of that school. The easy readability was also the cornerstone of the Bauhaus school of thought.
Bauhaus - Cranbrook Posters - Contrasting the previous Bauhaus poster is the Cranbrook design. It's crazy, haphazard positioning of the images and text pays homage to the Cranbrook philosophy. The text is more form than function allowing for a more interesting design with potentially less readability.
Race Posters - This is a set of two anti-racial posters. I photographed the children using a studio camera and then altered the appearance of them in Photoshop. I employed the concept of equality through the eyes of pure and unbiased children.
Race Posters - This is the second and final image in the set stressing that infants are born without the ability to see color, thus showing that adults should employ that very same ethical practice when judging others solely on the color of their skin.
Holiday Music Book - Front - These three images consist of a book, which humorously illustrates the commercialization of Christmas in today's society. The outer cover adorned with the title "Hollydays" unties to reveal a wondrous theme inside and out.
Holiday Music Book - Inside Page - Contained inside each square panel is a sheet of Christmas song music. Icons that represent the holiday such as sleigh bells, Santa, boots, and gifts are all pictorial icons. At the bottom of every sheet there is also a proof of purchase along with the price for each sheet of music, both in Canada and the United States.
Holiday Music Book - Opened - Finally for the finale when you are finished reading the sheet music the entire book opens to function as a shimmery ornament for hanging throughout the holiday.
Art Posters - This is a set of three posters each encapsulating the word Art. This first piece is the art of Karate. The actual word art is placed vertically down the right side of the poster in the native Japanese language to further enhance the culture of the image.
Art Posters - This poster involves the art of surfing. The same surfer tackles many waves in this piece over and over again, stressing the determination and perseverance that is required for this type of sport while also containing the beauty of surfing as an art form.
Art Posters - The final poster of this series is that of Lance Armstrong and the art of bicycling. Determination, hope and underlying faith stand true for Lance Armstrong who has beaten the odds and survived cancer, allowing him to continue following the paths he has chosen and his art form of cycling.
Music CD's - Front Covers - Two music band CD's. The case on the left belongs to the band African Head Charge, an edgy band, which consists mainly of drumbeat type sounds. The earth in the center is symbolic of their concern for the environment while the Norsoma (pointy structure) symbolizes the African culture. The case on the right is the Raffi album, Singable Songs for the Very Young. This case is displayed in fun, active colors and simplistic drawings to appeal to not only the young, but also the young at heart.
Music CD's - Back Covers - African Head Charge (left) carries the orange stripes throughout the design onto the spine and the back forming the design as a cohesive unit. The recording information and song titles are neatly arranged in an edgy font in bold colors. The Raffi case on the right includes icons from some of the songs on the album such as Mr. Sun and the Itsy Bitsy Spider for easy relation to the child. The colors are clear and concise and the text is easily readable against the background.
Love Mementos - This is the first of a series using the quote "Love is the Beginning of Forever." This is a t-shirt design in which the letter o in love is switched to a heart and the piece is mostly all text based but also reads as an image.
Love Mementos - This second piece in the series is image based. This 3D concept is based on time and it's correlation to love never ending. Time never stops and is forever, thus holding true to the quote.
Love Mementos - A main component of the love series is an anniversary thank you note. Handmade paper adds elegance and a personal touch to both the envelope and the thank you note.
Love Mementos - The inside of the invitation shows the original black and white Polaroid of the couples wedding inscribed with the phrase, "Love is the Beginning of Forever." This correlates with the twenty-five year old photo still commemorating the day that two hearts became one.
Fear Playing Cards - The following series of images were composed the week following the September 11th tragedy. This was a group project of playing cards in which each member of the group collaged photos together to embrace how they felt in one single word, mine being fear. We chose playing cards because alone they have deep meaning but it's not until they all come together that they are whole. This image represents people being buried alive representational of the events of 9-11.
Fear Playing Cards - This second image represents my own fear that I had of flying after September 11th. A photograph of my own eye with an illustration of a flying airplane embedded deep within the blackness of my pupil conveys to the audience the seriousness of the situation.
Fear Playing Cards - This altered version of Edward Munchs, Scream depicts the time when the US began to experience the effects of the use of anthrax as a biological weapon through my hometown post office.
Fear Playing Cards - This image consists of a photograph I shot of an old cemetery. The single faded flag represents the soldier who lost his life fighting for our country and the screaming mouth accentuates the element of fear along with the loneliness of the soldier by the representation of the single flag.
Anti-Drinking Billboard Concepts - This is one of a set of two billboards that I hope to have published and made viewable to the public. The subject matter is an anti-drinking and driving campaign. The man on the left is in his car and has obviously been drinking, as we see the liquor bottle. The image on the right depicts the horrifying result of his actions.
Anti-Drinking Billboard Concepts - This is the second billboard of the prior series. The harsh image of the dead body and the anonymous toe tag stresses the importance of not drinking and driving, while evoking an emotional connection through the universal concept of loss within the viewing audience.
Warhol Pop Art - Print spread for an art magazine on the biography of the life of the great artist Andy Warhol. The left page is a timeline highlighting various events in Andy's life, while the right page functions as a timeline of the advent of pop art. The cans symbolic of the Campbell's Soup Company which Andy did a great deal of works based on, represent the opening up of pop art in the year 1960. The article closes with one of Andy Warhol's coined phrases, "Everything is beautiful, Pop is everything."
A Barber Shop Nightmare - This is the first draft of a children's book currently in progress, which I am writing and illustrating. It will include an interactive CD designed in Flash MX. The goal of this project is to write, illustrate and produce a published version of this book/CD combo for retail sales.
Self Portrait - Bubbles - This is a collaged self-portrait. The bubbles are composed of different photographs from my life. The bubbles contain various themes, my past and those that have passed on, family and friends that are present and current, along with childhood photos which shaped in some way the person I have become today. My hand was scanned in on the scanner holding the bubble stick blowing the bubbles, which form the person I am.
