Light Source Enclosure for a Pharmaceutical Treatment
Problem:
Design a laser light source enclosure to project the light necessary for a photo-activated acne treatment and identify safety hazards. Then create design alternatives to mitigate any problems.
Final Design Description:
The finalized design has three parts: a cover, components enclosure, and a section that extends from the bottom of the components section out to the desired light projection dimensions. This was done to minimize extra internal space and material. The physical model was simplified to one extrusion and CAD simulations were done to compare the experimental thermal testing and the simulation results. Due to the consistency of these results, values were extrapolated for the finalized model and analyzed. Creating separation between the heat sink base and the external enclosure, the safety hazard with limit of 140 degrees F could be mitigated.
