Scale Modeling in LEGO - 1:152 scale model of the USS Bon Homme Richard as she appeared in 1968. Over 188 cm (6') long, this model features pneumatically controlled aircraft lifts, working jet blast deflectors and ordinance lifts. A section of the bow and stern detach for ease of storage or transportation.
Industrial Design Contingient leader, Carleton Formula SAE race car team - The Industrial Design Contingent (IDC) was charged with the design, testing and fabrication of the race car body and the study and development of the car's ergonomics. The body was developed using a combination of ideation sketches and Pro/ENGINEER. After conducting wind tunnel tests using a 1/3 scale model of the car, the body panels were NC machine using the Pro/E solid models. Finally the IDC used the NC molds to fabricate the composite body panels for the car. Our opponents were impressed!
Renderer for contract proposal - Created renderings for contract proposal documents for a supplier of the Department of Defence.
General interest/hobby - These are a couple of renderings I made of famous aircraft from WWII. The aircraft are Mustangs (a P-51B, nicknamed "Old Crow" in the thumbnail and a P-51D, nicknamed "Glamorous Glennis", above) flown by Colonel Clarence 'Bud' Anderson (ret.) and General Charles 'Chuck' Yeager (ret.) respectively. After creating these renderings I had the great privilage of having them autographed at the 2000 Oshawa "Fly In" airshow by the two pilots depicted.
Women's Hockey Equipment, 4th year major project - Designed upper body protection for female goaltenders. Project ranged from market research to concept sketches to ergo models to fabricating a fully functional final model which was tested and used by former WHL goalie Joyce Torrington.
My Hockey Equipment - These are the gloves, pads and mask that I've designed and fabricated (and that's me in net, so you know I stand behind my work). I've been creating and using my own gear since high school.
Cardboard 1/4 Scale Racing Car - This is a scale model I created at work (during breaks of course) of a mid engined, tube chassis car I designed around the turbocharged 2.4L World Engine. The pushrod suspension and stearing all work. Details such as brakes, brake ducts, heat exchangers, gages, 4 point harnesses, upholstery, pedals, engine wire harness, half shafts, battery, engine air cleaner, even an articulated 1/4 scale driver are all present. This project was just for fun.
Rough car sketches. Mixed media of marker, pen, chalk and white-out.
Marker Rendering - John Vanbiesbrouck playing for the Flyers. Mixed media of Tria markers, tech pen, coloured pencils and the obligatory white-out. Can you tell I like goalies?
SolidWorks Ergo Model - This is a 50th percentile male model I created in SolidWorks. The model was created to perform quick ergonomic checks during the design of shipping containers where the user had to enter and/or interact with the container. All of the major joints can be articulated using assembly mates.
