Rhythm
For this project, those is first year experience were asked to explore the properties of line/continuity, rhythm/pattern, mass/void, texture/surface, and value/tone. Initially, I collected sixteen photographs pertaining to each of the characteristics. Following my photographic investigation, using a 2 by 2 inch square, I created drawings that demonstrated each of the phenomena. I used various pen widths as well as various pencils to further express their diverse characteristics. After the completion of these drawings, I was asked to transform two of these into three-dimensional perspective drawings. I chose texture/surface and line/continuity. The final push of the project involved working in groups to create an installation that reflected one of the properties of our choice using metal and wooden blocks that we made in the materials lab. My group decided to pursue rhythm/pattern, and we came up with an installation that relied on one metal block as the base.
