Hillsborough Seating

In first year studio, I was prompted to create an installation on Hillsborough Street. I initially scouted out three sites along Hillsborough, which entailed sketching, photographing, measuring, and note taking. The focus of my installation was to create a place that encouraged communal gathering and social interaction inherently in the design. I chose to go with a seating arrangement in a quaint space to stimulate communication. To create the model for installation, I used copper wire, cardboard, and plywood. All aspects of the different seating arrangements located in the space incorporate a root-like aesthetic, which reflects the roots of the trees on the site. The copper wire weaves around a few trees and creates circular seating arrangements in which multiple people can occupy.
