I painted “Blue Dog” referencing a photograph of my dog, using acrylic paint, and manipulating tissue paper. After sketching the outline of the dog using a photograph, I laid down pieces of tissue paper on the canvas to create texture and emphasis. Next, I used acrylic paint of various colors to represent distinct emotions, feelings, and character traits. All of the colors used in the painting reflected the emotions of the dog. The color blue represents his contemplative, sad expression, while hints of purple suggest there is some mystery behind his emotions. His yellow collar symbolizes the dog’s loyalty to the family. The surrounding colors of pink and orange demonstrate the love, warmth, and joy that surround and radiate from the dog. His actions are those of affection despite his sad and pensive expression.
