Green Colonisation (Fachi, Niger)_2013

Green Colonisation was the result of a Sustainability Workshop I joined at the IUAV. It was a three people project with my workmates Lorenza Cramer and Sebastián Arango, focused on the sub-saharian social, environmental and economic situation, and the chance to contribute to its solution through architecture. The goal: an urban occupation system which may adapt and apply in any situation (big cities, small towns, or new settlements), using traditional, eco friendly building systems, to the point buildings may be unbuilt leaving no trace, simple enough to be assumed and repeated by unprepared workers with simple tools.
The result was a cell-like growth system focused on the gradual expansion of agriculture surfaces as a tool against famines, unemployment and desertification, regarding a controlled consumption of water where there's not plenty of it. Taking the village of Fachi as a sample, we stablished a variable population and farming areas, as well as the evolution of urban areas.
