Lawn Frog Mower
According to a 2012 EPA report, “a gasoline powered lawn mower emits 11 times the air pollution of a new car for each hour of operation.” Especially for people who have smaller lawns, gas-powered mowers pose the problem of being large and inefficient. At the same time, manual reel mowers can require a lot of force and can be difficult to use.
A full-scale, cardboard model was made to get correct proportions for determining the size needed for internal parts. After several rounds of sketching a refined model was made in Rhino.
The Lawn Frog mower is a battery-assisted reel mower geared toward a person with a smaller yard. A reel mower snips the lawn rather than ripping it, like a rotary mower, so I designed a reel mower that is battery-assisted. The lawn frog has a fun, green look, inspired by the Red-Eyed Green Tree frog, as opposed to a tough machine look.
