For this project we had to redesign the interface and the interaction of a pedometer made by SPORTLINE, to accomplish this task we had to test a current SPORTLINE product, create a persona and design the new device based on our research
After a first analysis of the "ThinQ" pedometer by SportLine, I developed a UML diagram with all the functions and settings of the device, I used this diagram to point out issues with the interaction with the hardware and software of the device
Tested device with 6 different subjects, average time to set this up was about 12 minutes. Based on this and other research points I decided to focus on three things.
The persona was based on the two girls we tested at the beginning of the research
Since a pedometer is meant to be carried on at all times, I based my inspiration for the new shape of the device on things the persona has on her most of the day
Much of the work for this project was to redesign the User Interphase. For this new UI I developed a simplified menu and a quicker setup for the device, and to test it I made a PowerPoint file with over 250 slides which simulated the interaction with the new UI
Compare setup times of the SportLine pedometer with my new device. Setup time dropped from 12 minutes to 3. And user liked better the new form.
