The Aspen pediatric line of five cervical collars was thoroughly redesigned to offer greater comfort as well as a more appropriate "fit" across the product line. Consideration was given to the development of an effective and reliable method for sizing the new product line. Project considerations included the addition of printed fitting guidelines to the strap, increased traque holes for the application of tube fittings, new sizing and labeling artwork and more flexible plastic tabs allowing the collar to conform to a custom fit. Materials were chosen for ease of cleaning, afforded comfort, and cost. Development of the pediatric collars involved considerable evaluation of the existing five cervical collars and customer feedback, including cost savings, fit, and application concerns. Development required very extensive generation of prototypes, coordination with doctors and nursing staff, at several hospital facilities throughout the country, for the external evaluation of prototypes.
