Aeroflite P-51 Limited Edition Watch

Aviation has always had a significant influence on the design of wristwatches. To create a story at retail that would tie into this heritage, I proposed a collection of watches that would commemorate iconic WWII-era fighter planes. Research led to a plane in Dallas, Texas at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum. The plane, named “The Brat III”, was flown by Lt. Hjalmar Johnsen and is one of only 9 surviving flight-worthy Mustangs to experience combat in WWII. Work on the design began with a team research visit to the museum to view the plane, talk with museum staff, and brainstorm ideas. The watch was retailed in a custom package and included several accessories that tied back to The Brat III. A booklet was included that communicated the history of both the plane and pilot. The watch uses an automatic movement that is visible through the dial, as well as the exhibition caseback. Production was limited to 554 pieces.
