The main focus of the project was to push the iconic use of the external heel counter that began with the Kobe IV, into a new area. I paralleled the use of the heel counter to the similarly manufactured cleat plate on the Nike Mercurial Soccer line. The Mercurial cleat plate has great visual depth and withstands the rigorous cuts of elite soccer athletes around the globe. I took my findings from the creation of those plates and applied it to the Kobe IX heel counter to create the “Active Control Heel Counter.”
