Martina Bustos

Martina Bustos is an impoverished town in Costa Rica composed mostly of Nicaraguan illegal immigrants. Many families there survive by collecting food and salvageable materials at the city dump. Therefore, subsistence gardening is very important. The two main obstacles are lack of water and lack of fertile soil. In order to solve these problems, we considered the housing area as a system and looked for inefficiencies. By closing the resource loop, we generated a solution that can benefit the environment and the community.
