Recycling Center - Neuse River graphic - A graphic study of the Neuse river system and the impact of urban growth and dams on flow rates. This was a result of the choice of sites, an abandoned waterworks alongside a tributary of the Neuse.
Recycling Center - glass life-cycle graphic - A graphical exercise in describing the life-cycle of glass, as a step in understanding the recycling center project.
Recycling Center - form development - A study (in Rhino) using data and concepts from the physical study to further develop the formal meshing of the recycling process of glass and the processes of the Neuse river system.
Recycling Center - form study in plaster and steel - A study in plaster, steel, and oak exploring formal relationships between the process of recycling glass and the processes of the Neuse river as influenced by dams. The wire structure was wrapped in plastic packing wrap to form the impression in the plaster. The structure altered the plaster, and the weight of the plaster altered the steel.
Recycling Center - site concept development - A look in plan at the development of formal concepts relative to the site. The site included existing buildings, including an abandoned Art Deco building that had once been the waterworks, a smaller, earlier building, and three separate in-ground water tanks. From this point on, the project was a joint effort with another member of the studio.
Recycling Center - skin concept - The concept for the skin of the two main elements of the recycling center.
Recycling Center - box concept - The concept for the solid units intersecting the main elements of the building. This rendering was produced by the other team member, though it was a joint concept.
Recycling Center - screen concept - The concept for the screen element sheltering educational elements around the main structure.
Recycling Center - street view - The front-most main element, as seen from the street. This was some combination of Rhino, Sketchup, and 3ds Max.
Recycling Center - rear view - The bridges connecting the two elements, one for the industrial processes, and one for visitors.
