The rough idea supporting these chair designs was that they should be designed to be flat-pack furniture, easy to distribute and assemble.
This concept piece was aimed at looking impressive, rather than any degree of comfort or practicality.
A quick cardboard prototype is the easiest way to gauge relative dimensions, as well as deduce how best the product should fit together, before committing to more expensive materials.
The table is suitably balanced by the curve in the middle and distribution of weight, which is ideal as there will not be unnecessary strain on the supporting limbs.
It became clear that to achieve a more stable table-top, as well as a better aesthetic appeal, more 'roots' should be added to the design.
A solid supporting section was added to the bottom, for stability.
Carefully sanding the 'roots' into rounded sections not only removes the sharpness and burning the laser leaves behind, but also achieves a more natural shape.
