Downtown LA’s culture and community boasts historic buildings and venues. New developments including loft living and urban revitalization are finding their stride with newcomers and long-time residents.
Newer designs are retro-fitted into existing sometimes historical spaces. The idea is to honor and fit the essence of retro, suggestively and abstractly.
Retro-fitted / Fitted Retro became the mantra. Multiple patterns and shapes of simple black and white tile create a modern way of acknowledging those spaces that have been remodeled over time. Etched aluminum soffit panels are new materials, referencing similar patterns found in grills and stencil work in the Historic Core and along Broadway.
New relevance is addressed through inserting simple clean lined soffits into the raw concrete shell, stenciled and layered with urban messages and graphics.
