This was a Sophomore 2012 Typography I Assignment. Choose a word to emphasis meaning through materials and how it was built. The word must be recreated perfectly in the chosen typeface (Adobe Garamond Pro) and be set in all capitals (perfectly spaced). Once the word was built it was required to be photographed to further reflect the concept (8x10). I chose the word pain, I chose the typeface Adobe Garamond Pro because of its sharpness: the disconnected bowl of the P that ends in the sharp point, the chip on the apex of the A, and the shape of the serifs overall. All of these attributes further enforce the meaning of the word. I chose it carve the word into log to reflect the pain of mother nature (deforestation and pain not in the context of a breathing creature). It also has a double meaning of the pain of lost love making the connection to when people used to carve a couple's initials into trees.
